Want to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities?  Become a volunteer.  Volunteers are essential in providing assistance to our riders with the direction from our instructors or therapists — many of our participants could not ride without their volunteers!  Depending on the class, riders may need two sidewalkers and a leader.  Our goal is progression and independence.  The time commitment is 1-1/2 hours per week at minimum.

Sidewalkers:

  • Primary role is to walk alongside the rider and provide support as indicated by the instructor.  It my be direct physical support, verbal support to reinforce the instructor’s directions, or acting as spotters during sessions.

Horse Leaders:

  • Generally, volunteers who come to the program with horse knowledge and who feel comfortable leading a horse will be asked to be a Horse Leader.

  • Horse Leaders are primarily responsible for the horse and must be alert and aware of the horse’s movement and behavior at all times

For questions, please send email to the attention of our volunteer department at runningwtrc@gmail.com or call 208.661.3743.  We look forward to seeing you around the ranch soon!
